Faux Sho-House – Inspiration 2015

This year’s Faux Sho-House is underway! As we looked for architectural inspirations, the BHD team sought the juxtaposition of old meeting new, sleek and polished versus textural and humble, and the presence of a commanding space alongside a quiet and simple comfort… In Bagnato’s 1892 church conversion, we found them all.

Over the coming weeks, the BHD team will be dividing the now residence into various spaces, sharing how this architecture inspired our designs in this church-turned-residence! We will begin our “tour” with the entry, followed by the living room, kitchen, and master suite.

Stay tuned as we open the doors and share the designs for this unique and charming place!

Everything Has a Place

Not to belabor a point, BUT… I adore kitchens. They truly are the heart of the home and considering all of the activity whirling about, they beg for organization. Dishes, cookbooks, coffee makers, mail, and backpacks… This list could go on!  In an effort to keep everything from being strewn about, kitchens call for a place for everything!

Just below, I love the open shelving under this kitchen’s island. Here we have a “tucked away” spot for cookbooks. These could also be displayed by grouping the books by color – Sorting the whites, yellows/oranges, blues, darker colors, etc… A collection of canisters would also be beautiful.

Here, the corbels supporting the wall-mounted shelves and island counter top provide a nice decorative element and dimension to the space.

These stained-wood shelves provide a warm contrast to the otherwise very white & neutral space. They provide an out of the way space for decorative objects, are a discrete location for the music source, and stow away the cups & saucers.

Aren’t the glass doors on this cabinetry fabulous? Another beautiful way to accomplish attractive and useful storage in the kitchen. More to come!

In Living Color

Oftentimes, in our first conversations with homeowners, there is a request for livability and a home with stylish design. They want it to reflect their personality and unique characteristics without losing its functionality. One way we meet this need in interior design is through the application of color. While many individuals seek a serene muted and monochromatic space, that is not what I am referring to here…today I am speaking to the design preferences of those who seek to be In Living Color.

Here color is enjoyed on a daily basis as seen in this kitchen and breakfast area…

These clients seek fun, yet livable, color. The two color palettes above utilize dominant colors partnered with white. White, as it is composed of all colors in the spectrum of light, will always compliment the already present hues.

I do love the simplicity of the yellow pedestal as it accompanies this multi-color, floral chair.
