Guest Rooms!

We are quickly approaching that time of the year where our guest rooms see a lot of action!  Family holidays and gatherings are often so jammed packed with details that sometimes the guest room itself gets overlooked.  There is nothing more enjoyable than a nice hotel experience.  Why not give your guest this experience? Below are items available through BHD to keep your guests comfortable and feeling like royalty!

Each guest shows up with some kind of luggage.  Hotels always have the nifty luggage rack.  We found one that functions just the same, but is sharp looking!  This leather top with metal base can be folded up and put away when not in use.

Sometimes its just best to use a bench.  They are generally small and can be used at the end of the bed for both luggage and a place to sit.  We love the simple structural details of the following benches. They'll fit any quest perfectly!

Bedding is crucial for a good night’s rest.  So why not give them the hotel feel?  Trimmed duvets always look sharp and can be removed to be cleaned.  Don’t forget to provide an extra throw incase one gets chilly!

Providing a bedside decanter filled with water gives your guest  convenience and puts your mind to ease that they won’t go thirsty during the night!

Providing bathroom amenities such as q-tips and cotton balls for your guests is a must.  Why not make these utilitarian items look great in decorative containers wrangled into a gorgeous tray!

And last but not least, provide your guest with the chance to write notes or send letters back home.  Keep things organized by storing them in glass boxes or unique horn cups for easy access.  With items this pretty, these things won't go unnoticed!

Back in the School Groove!

Are you sick of your dining room table being cluttered with papers? A designated schoolwork space benefits the parents as well as the children. It can turn a place of homework struggles into a happy homework haven. If possible, create your space in a place where your kids already gravitate to. Go with the flow and think long term. You'll want a space you can update as your children grow older and study needs change. A monotone environment is less likely to encourage creativity and stimulate the thinking process. Be creative & use color!

Depending on the age of your child, having a place for parents to sit can also be important.

Keep the clutter to a minimum! There may need to be plenty of supplies for your student to access. Help them learn to stay organized. There should be a place for everything and after the homework session everything should go back in its place.

Having furniture to fit your child’s size is important. This adjustable height desk and chair are just the ticket for growing kids!

What a great set up for multiple children!

Obviously, not all students are young children. So what about teens and college students? Here are some wonderful ideas for these folks.

What teen wouldn’t dig this set up? Notice the flexible lighting, great storage, and ample work space!

Proper lighting is essential to any work space. Keep lighting options flexible and be sure to provide task lighting. Any of these lights would do the trick!

8

Comfortable and adjustable seating is also important. I LOVE the Herman Miller office chairs!

If a built-in desk is not an option for you check out these movable pieces!

10

Having a specific place where you feel comfortable, can focus, and get to work is important for any student. Where do you or your children do homework?

Faux Sho-House: Library/Home Office Edition!

A home office or library can mean a lot of different things to different people. For me it is an escape. A place where MY stuff belongs. No  kid toys, plenty of storage, a surface to draw, write, paint, or work on the computer, and a comfortable seating area are key for my home office. I am excited to showcase what my ideal office space would provide. Not shown in these images would be built-in floor to ceiling cabinetry across from this desk wall. Enjoy!

Theo chair by Angela Adams is a cozy spot to snuggle up with a good book on a lazy Sunday afternoon.

This round side table with tree legs is so great I NEED one! Available through BHD.

2

I happen to love most things from Anthropologie. This Ettore bench with custom cushion (fabric: Robert Allen, Road Bump) would be a functional piece in almost any room you choose to place it in.

4

On that Anthropologie note, both this beautiful rug and bookshelf are from  their exciting collection of  home goods. The rug is the Doily rug and the bookshelf is the Kansai bookshelf.

7

All of the cubbies in this desk excite me! I know, I’m a dork, I just love organization! This desk is called the Dockery Work Table and is from Currey and Company. This sweet little desk chair is made by Zentique and is called the Louis Side Chair.

Fun accessories make the space unique and feel like home.

From left to right:

Aldo Vase, Yuma Vases, Marbled Vase, Cartwright Mirror, Ronan Hinged Box, all available through BHD

Lighting is  usually forgotten until the end of a project, when your budget is shot. Good lighting will make a great space spectacular and have a major impact on the design. Bad lighting can ruin an entire design. Both of these amazing lighting elements are available through BHD.

9What is important to you in your home office? Stay tuned for more exciting spaces next week!
