Last but not least, the Faux Sho's final post, the playroom (for young and older). What fun a playroom can be! It’s a high activity space: tumbling, playing instruments, music listening, art creating, playhouse and lego building, movie/TV watching, gaming, lounging, entertaining! Often an odd shaped space, long and skinny, the room over the garage, an attic build out, basement build out, odd pass through room…these rooms are unusual and perfect for a multi-tasking.  I prefer to think of these spaces as separate zones based on activity and because of their high energy these rooms can take bold design elements.

I love all things abstract and color but with a little grounding and practicality. This American Leather sofa is large, plush and versatile.  Available in leather or fabric, the backs can raise and lower to meet any body frame. It softly says, come lounge (or jump) on me…I’m comfy! By adding abstract pattern pillow,s from Dedar, we create a simplified graphic statement. Accompanying the sofa is an ottoman from Montis. Pack it with books, mags or toys. It’s soft yet has a flat surface, has rounded corners for safety and offers a punch of color.

Purcell Living’s Cuscino easy chair is constructed of a quilted synthetic leather stretched over foam.  Extremely comfortable for gaming and movie watching, but can take a  beating!  We’ve paired it with Made Good’s Lambert table.  Formally know as the potato table, we love this recycled cement paper on wire frame’s asymmetrical curves!

We couldn't pass up this chaise lounge by Patricia Urquiola!  It’s wooden and steel frame with woven cord upholstery would make a lovely place to read or work on your laptop! Paired with this versatile floor lamp which allows you to direct light where and how you need it!  This lamp is available through BHD. 4

With most of the rooms lending themselves to active specific areas, use flooring to define the spaces. Where tumbling, art,  and indoor wall climbing happen we placed cushy rubber puzzle tiles.  Interface’s new plank-style carpet tiles are the perfect practical soft flooring for all other areas.  Both easy to clean, repair and replace if ever needed!

Playrooms can never have enough storage!  We love this concept image of a wall full of asymmetrical shelving to hold toys, books, and movies.  For game storage we chose B+N Industries collaboration with Rex Ray, the Ellipses and Waves credenza.  Practical, functional and absolutely fun all in one!

Playrooms are the perfect place for wall treatments!  We love Designing Solution’s chartreuse climb wall!  And for an accent wall we chose Flat Vernacular’s Peaks and Valley’s wallpaper to give an area an extra special pop!

We hope that our Faux-Sho playroom design has inspired you to look at your playroom design differently; whether this space is for the young or young at heart. How can you incorporate some of these design details into your play area?

Thanks for following our Faux Sho House Tour. We've enjoyed the challenge and exploration of designing our own spaces. Hopefully you have gathered inspiration and ideas along the way. Until our next Sho-House returns happy designing! -The BHD team
