Wallpaper is once again an interior design trend, and it is a design choice that can make a big impact. Covering the wall with a dramatic pattern or texture transforms plain, white rooms into something show-stopping. Of course, you want to avoid a wallpaper catastrophe by selecting a pattern and colorway that don’t overwhelm nor remind you of your grandmother’s dated interior design. In recent years, there has been a growing appreciation for wallpaper, and bold designs are becoming more common, especially in small spaces such as powder rooms. Thankfully, that means the selection of wallpaper has grown, and you can choose from endless options.  From bold graphic patterns to calming patterns to floral designs, wallpaper adds excitement and sets the stage for good design.

Flowers in the powder room

When you think of wallpaper, floral patterns often come to mind, and we’ve all seen the best and worst floral designs that wallpaper has to offer. Thankfully, contemporary patterns surpass the dated designs made popular decades ago. Here, hot pink accents and oversized flowers cover the wall and play nicely with the marble sink and flooring.  Another unexpected element is black finishes.

Soothing bedroom walls

Wallpaper often brings to mind graphic patterns and colors that take center stage in a space. It is time to expand our understanding of what wallpaper can do. When a design doesn’t call for scene-stealing pattern or color, opt for something with texture that ties the room together, like a grasscloth. This can be especially effective in larger spaces, such as bedrooms and dining rooms.

Lots of lips

If you are a playful person who loves a lot of whimsy in your home decor, opt for a wallpaper that reflects your personality.  We love this simple design of this pink-lips wallpaper that covers a single wall in a feminine bathroom. Beth Haley punched up the pink by adding pink towels, art, and blooms. Again, black acts as a statement-making contrasting color to pull out the playful shade of pink.

Geometric patterns in a colorful space

By now, you know how deep our love of color runs here at Beth Haley Design, and our design team is clever when it comes to unexpected color combinations. For example, this house smartly uses reds, blues, and pinks and clean lines of modern design for a look that’s fun but not lawless. Throughout the home, wallpaper rounds out the design and attracts the eye.

A touch of orange

All that this powder room needed was a touch of color. The two-toned wall covering brings an elegance into the design and acts as a focal point in the small space. Because the covered area is limited to one wall, the homeowner could commit to something daring. If you are considering wallpaper, start somewhere small and remember that your decision doesn’t have to last a lifetime.

Cool to the touch

Perhaps our favorite use of textured wallpaper in a home, this dining room displays a balanced approach to color, texture, and pattern. The woven natural fibers of grasscloth wallpaper give off a subtle warmth and bring dimension into the dining room and the dining chairs introduce additional texture and color. Even though a natural color grasscloth wallpaper is widely available, you can also find the grasscloth in a range of colors.

Traditional doesn’t mean boring

Despite the traditional elements of this small powder room, the design does not read as dated or boring. On the contrary, the design pushes the envelope with an all-black toilet and wainscoting, gold finishes, and, of course, the wallpaper.  The elements of this design are impossible to ignore, and each piece serves as both art and decor.
