Nursery Inspiration!

It is no secret I am 7 months pregnant and have all things baby on my mind. As an interior designer, I have spent almost every evening fantasizing about how I can create the perfect space for our baby boy.

Choosing the crib was daunting. I wanted one by Oeuf till I learned the price. This simple mod crib by Babyletto ended up being my best solution. The bright white feels right for the baby’s room and I am happy with the level of craftsmanship.

It wasn’t until I read a mountain of baby books that I realized I needed to invest in a rocker / glider nursing chair. A lot of reviews directed me towards gliders I would never in a million years invest money into but I finally found one from Gus Modern that feels like it is a worthy purchase because we might be able to use it in another room down the line.

As for the classic changing table verse dresser debate, I ended up choosing a dresser that was designed for a nursery. I like the idea of using a real dresser with a specially designed attachable changing pad because changing tables aren’t a permanent item in a kids room but a dresser certainly is. This dresser by Newport Cottages has great reviews and think it will last a very long time. I had a 6 drawer dresser growing up and loved it. As I got older I made it my vanity by hanging a mirror above it and loved all the surface space.

I am still ironing out what kind of rug I want to laydown over the carpet. Usually I am not a rug on rug type of person but I want to make the baby’s room as warm and soft as possible. This fantastic Moroccan rug I found online is out of my reach but I am using the image as placeholder till I find one with a friendlier price tag.

I have been having fun doing some DIY projects. I love these prints from illustrator Danielle Knoll and was inspired to make my own series. I ended up doing the cheetah, an elephant, crocodile, zebra, giraffe, and lion. I am very pleased with the way the series turned out. I think I will hang them above the dresser but I will wait till we move in to decide.

Another project I am looking forward to is making a pom pom mobile. There are a lot of beautiful ones online, like this one from artist Dana Haim, but  I am having fun coming up with my own design! I like the idea of making things for the nursery because it gives the space a very personal touch.

The last thing I know I won’t be able to live without is an assortment of oversize African baskets. I have a few at now but plan on adding a couple more to the collection. I know it won’t work for as a diaper pale (!) but I imagine they will be perfect for storing toys, blankets, dirty clothes, etc.

As excited as I am to move into a new chapter, baby, house, NC, I will be sad to say goodbye to the wonderful world of Beth Haley Design. It has been my absolute pleasure working with everyone and being apart of the Nashville design community! Goodbye and best wishes everyone!

New Gulch Bar Gets the BHD Design!

Open for business!

There’s a new hot spot in the Gulch that has a special place in my heart.  Hops + Crafts, proprietors of craft beers from local breweries as well as micro-breweries from around the country, is a great place to sample different brews and the atmosphere isn’t too shabby either, if I do say so myself.  I’m very proud of having worked with the owners on the interior design of their new digs and  I couldn’t be happier with the end result.

The owners were great to work with on this project.  They came to me with a few ideas and were very open to mine.  The end result is a comfortable spot to hang with your friends that also has enough hip factor to fit in with the Gulch landscape.      We mixed a lot of materials in the space; reclaimed barn wood, chrome, glass and even chalkboard paint.  I believe in the power of chalkboard paint!

The chrome and wood barstools make a good contrast against the barn wood bar.  I love these stools because they are the perfect combination of industrial and retro.  They’re pretty comfy too.

Who loves this table? I do!  The legs are polished chrome and the top is reclaimed wood that has some pretty serious graining.  I though it paired well with the antelopes in the fabric.  Frolicking antelopes always make for a good time!

The Gulch skyline…..not a bad view on a Saturday night.

This project was so much fun to work on and the owners were awesome.  Good luck guys and I look forward to coming over and making use of that patio!
