Choose Your Pieces

Find art and decorative pieces that you resonate with, and take inventory of what you already have! Our favorite gallery walls are made up of a plethora of different artwork and items. Mix and match prints, photographs, and paintings of various styles, while staying mindful of size and color. Think about your personal aesthetic and preferences—do you gravitate towards cooler tones? Is your style more eclectic? Consider adding a textile or something sculptural, such as a ceramic piece, to add visual interest.

Lay Out Your Gallery Wall Before You Hang It

Measure the area where you plan to hang your gallery wall. Next, lay out all of your pieces before you begin the hanging process. Play around with placement and design. This way, you can move things around and try different combinations, but without damaging your walls. To keep your gallery wall feeling interesting, try combining vertical and horizontal pieces and different frame styles. Keep in mind that you want rhythm, but without rules. It doesn’t have to be a perfect, symmetrical grid!

Hang Strategically

Once you choose your pieces and plan your gallery wall’s layout, it’s time to start hanging! We recommend hanging your largest pieces first and building around them. The larger items act as jumping-off points for placing the rest of the pieces you have. Hang your biggest piece to start with, and then hang another piece diagonally from that one. Now you just have to fill in the empty space!

Art

Lastly, remember to have fun with it. Putting up a gallery wall can feel intimidating, but once it’s up it’s incredibly gratifying!
