We can’t believe 2023 has come to an end. This past year, we saw cozy interiors, bold, nature-inspired hues, and textured eco-friendly materials. The design choices and trends of 2023 continued to encourage comfort and stability at home.

With 2024 quickly approaching, is it time to reveal some surprising — and not-so-surprising — interior design trends set to take the stage. From period revivals to shocking statement colors and the appeal of artisanal accessories, here’s what we’ve discovered.

Brown is leading in the color trends.

Rich, earthy colors are making a comeback in the design world. Brown is a great shade for your home — it’s very warm and can act as a complementary neutral to layer with other colors. The dark and cozy color also fits in with various design styles, whether you’re a statement-lover, minimalist, or lean towards having a more traditional taste.

Prepare to embrace artisanal everything.

We have noticed that our clients are craving the handmade — whether it’s hand-painted ceramic tile, hand-carved wood furniture, or hand-painted murals, one-of-a-kind pieces are in. In the new year, there will be an increased demand for elements such as American folk art and heirloom, antique, or vintage items made with consideration and care. There’s something incredibly unique and fun about these kinds of imperfect design details.

Sustainable materials will be the standard.

Sustainability is simultaneously a trend and an initiative being used to significantly reduce negative impacts on our planet. At Beth Haley Design, we encourage our clients to select materials that have a low impact on our environment, energy use, and water consumption. By looking to greener alternatives, we can make the world a better place without compromising style.

Victorian interior design is back.

We will continue seeing opulent furnishings, patterned wallpaper, and rich colors throughout the home this year. This continued nod to maximalism embraces things we love: jewel tones, dramatic window treatments, ornate details, and eye-catching chandeliers. If you are looking to incorporate a Victorian feel into your own home, consider items such as fringed pillows and dramatic wallpaper.

Cozy, quiet luxury is still in.

With the “quiet luxury” trend embracing everyday versatility and elegance, we anticipate a trend toward relaxed and casual furniture. Clients will lean more towards comfortable, lived-in furniture choices, which also means the use of elevated basics. Think cashmere throw blankets, marble tables, Egyptian cotton bedding, and other quality pieces that will stand the test of time.
