Attracted to the neighborhood’s original charm, Beth Haley purchased her first home in 12 South in 1992, and nearly two decades later, she moved her offices there, as well. Today, the Beth Haley Design team gladly calls the neighborhood home.

“It has been remarkable to watch my beloved neighborhood evolve and come alive with energy and vibrancy,” Beth explains her love for 12 South. “I’m lucky to have such a unique selection of shops and restaurants all within walking distance of my office.”

Despite its small size, 12 South has so much to offer. This living neighborhood has a simple, cool vibe that appeals to locals and visitors. On the list of local businesses Beth loves: Blooms, White’s Mercantile, Serendipity, Savant, Frothy Monkey, Taqueria del Sol, and Burger Up. There are plenty of reasons to stroll the street — from shops and restaurants to murals and community events. Just a few blocks away, neighboring Belmont is another neighborhood Beth adores. She is charmed by the friendly community and lovely family-friendly homes, characteristics of both Belmont and 12 South.

Take a walking tour of the neighborhood, and you’ll quickly understand its appeal.

Bloom Flowers

Technically located in the Belmont neighborhood, Bloom is a full-service florist and gift shop. Fresh flowers always brighten up Beth’s day, and she loves the convenience of this local shop. Whether you are picking something up in a pinch or planning a grand affair that calls for flowers, Blooms is a go-to. Plus, they have a great selection of gifts.

White’s Mercantile

A one-stop-shop for gifts, White’s Mercantile has become a 12 South staple for shopping (and browsing). Owned by Holly Williams, the store is a treasure trove of books, local pantry items, candles, kitchenwares, gifts for kids — and few fashion finds, as well. The gas-station-turned-shop is so well-styled that you’ll want to move right in.

Serendipity

Just steps away from the Beth Haley Design offices and showroom, you’ll find another gift shop: Serendipity. It is a favorite of Beth’s for its local goodies that make the perfect presents for any occasion. When running to a last-minute party, Beth has been known to stop in for a last-minute gift, and she never comes out empty-handed.

Savant

Discover vintage shopping at its best at this much-talked-about spot in 12 South. Even if you can’t swing the higher price tags, you will love looking at the selection of vintage clothes and accessories at Savant. The cozy shop attracts stylish folks, and you might just run into a celebrity (or their personal shopper).

Frothy Monkey

Beth has proclaimed her love for Frothy Monkey before, but it bears repeating. The menu is approachable, and each dish is fresh and filling. You can’t go wrong with all-day breakfast items, such as the California and the omelet, or lunch sandwiches, such as the Royale. This coffee shop/restaurant is a treat any time of day (any day of the week). Say hello if you see the Beth Haley team eating lunch!

Taqueria del Sol

Another 12 South lunch spot, Taqueria del Sol, delivers all the flavor without the fuss. The flavors are straightforward (but still interesting), and the atmosphere is casual. The focus here is on tacos, but you can also order enchiladas or the famous corn chowder. Don’t be alarmed by the line that loops to the door — things move quickly.

Burger Up

Everything about Burger Up is delicious, from the casual-cool interiors to the burger-forward menu. In addition to your classic beef patties, find turkey and bison burgers, plus a stand-out quinoa and black bean veggie burger. Each of the four salads can be topped with your patty of choice (if you are looking for something lighter). To start, the fried pickle chips and fry flight are your best options.

Beth Haley Design Showroom

The Beth Haley showroom is show-stopping!

We might be biased, but the BHD Showroom has earned its spot on our list of neighborhood favorites. A colorful selection of interior design finds fill the showroom (which shares a building with the Beth Haley Design offices). We’d love for you to come to say hello and see what Beth has hand-picked for the showroom.

Shop and eat in the neighbor, then swing by to say hi to the Beth Haley Design team at our 12 South showroom!
